Minehead to Lavernock
The section of Channel between Porthcawl/Glenthorne and Penarth/Weston has never had a recorded and ratified swim get across until 2023. The current here are really strong as the incoming tide is forced into a narrowing channel by the Welsh coastline. The North/South distance is around 10 to 12 miles but the tide can be moving roughly east/west at around 2.5knots on a neap tide!
Ratified Swims
Tom said he drempt this route up to fill a gap in his chart! This is his sixth Bristol Channel solo and fills the gap between his Porthcawl-Glenthorne swims and his swim from Penarth to Weston. More detail here: Tom Chapman
